Ground will be broken in December on the new F1 track in Austin that will hold the 2012 US GP.
Susan Combs, Chief Financial Officer of Texas, confirmed to KVUE News that work would begin in the later stages of this year, with the exact location of the track to be confirmed in the
near future.
Combs recently attended the British Grand Prix in an effort to better understand what would be required to make the Austin race a unique and exciting event.
Combs told the American Statesman that those at the Silverstone race "were wildly enthusiastic about there being a U.S. Grand Prix."
While those abroad may be feeling upbeat about the event, there are concerns locally about the environmental impact of the construction effort, fears Combs is looking to ally.
"I think you're going to find that it's green both physically with trees and grass and environmentally and I think you're going to find that the way the vehicles are managed is environmentally friendly," she explained to KVUE.
The CFO added that she was not fazed by reports that negotiations for another US GP in New York were underway, telling the Statesman she would be "very surprised" if another race was to take place in the country and that "this site is the U.S. Grand Prix, and it's in Austin, Texas."
